Reflections on 2016

For Colorado Youth Matter, 2016 was a year of vision, determination, and accomplishment. As we prepare for 2017, I’d like to take some time to reflect on CYM's work over the past year, and the state of sexual health education in Colorado.
One of our biggest accomplishments of the year was with our Maximizing Success project. In this project we aim to close the gaps between schools and clinics in order to fully provide youth with the education and resources they need for their sexual health. I am proud to say that every single one of our Maximizing Success partners - including Denver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, the BC4U clinic at Children's Hospital, and the Kids First clinic - has begun to implement evidence-based, comprehensive sex ed programs. This accomplishment, along with increased communication between schools and clinics, is increasing the number of youth in Colorado who have access to the information and services they need for their sexual health.
Along with Maximizing Success, Colorado Youth Matter also provides support for school districts in the implementation of comprehensive sex ed programs. This support can range from the initial implementation of a program to helping it become self-sustaining. In 2016, Colorado Youth Matter has succeeded in helping 12 school districts implement programs in their schools - meaning thousands of Colorado youth now have access to comprehensive sex ed.
None of this work is possible if we don't keep our own house in order, which is why another great accomplishment for Colorado Youth Matter this year has been working toward sustainability. By planning a social enterprise, CYM is diversifying its revenue sources and creating a solid foundation for our work. We are also actively working toward increasing our individual donor revenue in order to ensure more sustainable and unrestricted income for the organization.
In short, 2016 was a year of success for Coloado Youth Matter, and has only sharpened our focus for a future where all Colorado youth will have access to the education and resources they need to make informed decisions for their sexual health. But the year isn't over yet; there's still time for you to be a part of Colorado Youth Matter's year of success by making a donation today.
With your support, 2017 is bound to be an even greater year for Colorado Youth Matter, and for the state of sexual health education in Colorado. Happy holidays, and happy new year!
